Important Announcement Regarding VIU ElderCollege
Thank you for choosing VIU and ElderCollege to explore your interests and expand your knowledge.
The successful partnership between Vancouver Island University and the ElderCollege Board of Directors has been a source of pride for both parties over the past 30 years.
VIU has wholeheartedly supported ElderCollege by providing essential infrastructure, including facilities, accounting services, technology support, and registration systems. We've allocated a significant portion of administrative and support resources to assist with ElderCollege operations. We have been very appreciative of the immeasurable hours of volunteered time provided by the ElderCollege Board and instructors.
This partnership has enriched our community in countless ways for three decades.
However, considering the university’s current financial position, we are required to examine all aspects of our operations for efficiency, including lifelong learning offerings and continuing education programs. Consequently, we have made the very difficult decision to suspend our support for ElderCollege activities beyond December 31, 2023.
I want to emphasize that VIU will be supporting all course delivery for the Fall 2023 ElderCollege session. VIU is incredibly grateful for the dedication and commitment of the ElderCollege Board and instructors who have generously volunteered their time and expertise over three decades.
VIU remains committed to lifelong learning and we are currently examining all models and best practices for continuing education to meet the diverse needs of our communities going forward.
The VIU community acknowledges and thanks the Snuneymuxw, Quw’utsun and Tla’amin, on whose traditional lands we teach, learn, research, live, and share knowledge.
