Wearing a mask at VIU Facilities

PLEASE NOTE: These guidelines have now been updated. Please see the updated mask guidelines for the most up-to-date information regarding the wearing of non-medical masks at VIU facilities.

Vancouver Island University has issued the following guidelines for use of non-medical masks on VIU campuses and other properties:

  • Non-medical masks are required to be worn in all public indoor areas of VIU buildings, and when you are outdoors where two meter distancing cannot be maintained. This applies to:
    • work/learning activities,
    • non-work/non-instructional activities
    • Elevators
    • Kitchens
    • Hallways
    • Customer counters
    • Break rooms/areas
    • Continue to keep two meters apart from others even if you are wearing a mask
    • Note, exemptions include:
      • anyone with an underlying medical condition or disability that inhibits their ability to wear a mask or face covering,
      • anyone who cannot put on or remove a mask on their own.

Don’t have a non-medical mask? Visit the Campus Store.
