VIU Communicable Diseases Plan

Please note: due to the rapidly changing situation following provincial announcements on August 23 and 24 and VIU's August 27 announcement, some information on the website is now out of date. Thank you for your patience as we work on updates.

VIU's new campus-wide 2021 VIU Communicable Diseases Plan is now available, following the recent release of the provincial COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Guidelines. The Provincial Health Officer advised businesses and universities to transition from COVID-19-specific safety plans to a new communicable disease plan following guidelines developed by WorkSafeBC.  A summary of the CDP can be viewed HERE.

The VIU Communicable Disease Plan replaces all existing VIU COVID-19 safety plans and contains the required ongoing prevention measures to support a safe and full return to in-person learning, work, research and on-campus services and activities.

The VIU Fall 2021 Campus Restart page provides transitional information to assist departments to gradually and safely ease restrictions leading up to the Fall and Step 4 of the BC Restart Plan. The Campus Restart retains some existing safety measures until the end of summer classes. Some measures will remain in place throughout the next school year.

Health and Safety Services will continue to support all VIU departments and employees, as they have throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, to help navigate the transition into the Fall semester.
