Health and Science Centre

We are pleased to announce the federal and provincial governments, along with the University's community partners, have made a significant investment in VIU. The new funding, totalling $40.9 million, is in support of a new Health and Science Centre – a facility that highlights the University's commitment to providing relevant and responsive health and science programs in an innovative learning environment. (Federal funding is allocated through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund). The 6,855-square-metre facility houses most of VIU's Health and Chemistry programs in one facility. It will ensure that our VIU community has access to state-of-the art learning environments, and that students will continue to receive top-notch education and training for today's in-demand health care jobs.

This new facility – which will include expanded research labs and teaching labs for nursing and other health programs – will create 150 direct and 115 indirect jobs, and help us collaborate and partner with industry cohorts. It will also enhance our engagement with Aboriginal students and community stakeholders, thanks to a responsive curriculum and welcoming spaces that are designed to reflect the insights of local First Nations.
