Nanaimo Campus Master Plan

Background

The Nanaimo Campus Master Plan was originally created in 2008-2009 by means of a broad consultation with the VIU Community and other local & regional neighbours & organizations.  It is a "Living Document" intended to be updated every 5-8 years.  The most recent update was undertaken in 2017.

The Nanaimo Campus Master Plan:

  • Provided the VIU community with an opportunity to collectively develop a strategic and organized approach to integrated campus planning on the Nanaimo campus.
  • Is an important requirement when applying for government funding.
  • Will VIU in reducing facilities and infrastructure costs in the future.

The Nanaimo Campus Master Plan was developed with input from a wide range of constituents. This input helped VIU create a vision to build our campus in ways that best support the needs of students, employees, the surrounding community, and visitors to the campus.

To ensure that the planning process encompassed the broadest input, a project steering committee was established with representation from all campus constituencies.  The committee provided advice and input to the planning consultants, and seek input from the VIU community.
