What are the President's Awards for Enhancing Access and Inclusion?

The VIU Access and Inclusion Award recognizes individuals who have made our VIU university community more accessible and inclusive for persons with disabilities by:

  • Removing or challenging physical, systemic or other barriers;
  • Creating opportunities for inclusion;
  • Improving physical access to buildings, infrastructure, public spaces and events;
  • Connecting persons with disabilities from our campuses to services, resources and supports; and/or
  • Educating and inspiring others to cultivate a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Deadlines and Dates

  • Nominations will be accepted up to August 10, 2024
  • The VIU President's Awards and Provost Teaching Awards are presented annually


Who can you nominate?

The Nominee must be a member of the VIU community, or a VIU-based organization or group.
Faculty members, employees, administrators and students may be nominated.

How many awards?

This year we will honour, as an additional award individuals who enhance open access and excellence in education by modelling outstanding commitment to and/or innovation in creating, delivering or supporting accommodated learning strategies for students with disabilities.

Who’s not eligible?

Members of the Office of the President, Office of the University Secretariat, or the Diversity, Equity and Human Rights Office, or a previous recipient.

    • Why do they deserve the award?
    • What impact have they had on VIU?
