A hazard assessment is not about creating huge amounts of paperwork. It's about understanding what our employees and students do in the course of their work and learning, the health and safety hazards that exist while they are working or learning, and what could happen should someone be exposed to the hazard.
VIU, acting through our managers, is responsible for identifying all reasonable ways to manage hazard exposure and this is done using a job or task hazard analysis process. The process allows managers to implement the most effective and feasible method into the day-to-day activities of our employees and students. This process identifies:
- Who might be harmed and how.
- What VIU can do to minimize or prevent exposure to the hazard
