Part of the consultation process that VIU is using to develop the Foundational Plan for Community Engagement includes using a modified version of the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification assessment. This exercise will allow VIU to assess our current structure and processes to enable community engagement and to identify strategies to build on our success over the next 5 years. The assessment tool will be completed with input from numerous departments during the spring of 2022. Stakeholders will be invited to contribute to one or more of the 9 workbooks. The workbooks each ask a series of yes no questions with an opportunity to describe elements of our current system to support community engagement. The nine workbooks have been distributed to stakeholders across the institution for completion and results will be compiled and shared with the Steering Committee.
